Planning the Journey

On the map above you can see my planned itinerary, as of November 2002. The route is a rough approximation of what the actual route might be. In some cases, like Africa, the actual route may change significantly due to safety concerns. In some parts of the world, the political, economical and social situation is very volatile making it very difficult to plan a precise itinerary through those regions years in advance.
On the other hand, the map above and the table below will give an idea about the places I intend to visit and will serve me as a guideline on my travels. I have yet to lay down the precise route through Asia, which is due to occur between May and November 2005. For one thing, I would like to be able to travel through China and Japan, but China does not allow unaccompanied motorcycles through their territory. Because of this problem, I have not decided yet if I'm going through northern Asia, starting from Iran for instance, or if I go directly to India and just tour Southeast Asia. Another Asian country out of the question is Myanmar (former Burma), due to closed borders. Anyhow, the following table contains a planned itinerary as laid out on the above map.
